Checked, dated, sourced

How we check things

Every rule, price and builder detail here carries its source and the date we checked it. Where we have not checked, the page says so.

Council rules

We read the council's own planning scheme, local law or web page, and copy the official wording word for word. The plain-language answer sits beside the quote, with a link to the document and the date we checked it.

Each council is checked on six separate permissions: planning, building, local law, wastewater, transport and short stay. A yes on one says nothing about the others.

What the labels mean

Prices

A price is shown with whether it includes GST, which build stage it covers (trailer only, shell, lockup, kit or turnkey), whether it is advertised, quoted or estimated, and the date we saw it. Prices for different stages are never averaged together. Older prices stay on record and are marked as superseded.

The cost tool starts from ranges, which are estimates and not quotes. A figure you type in is treated as your quote.

Builders

A builder is listed after we check its identity, its role and whether it is operating. The operating status shows the date it was last checked. A builder we have not checked shows as not checked, not as operating.

A business description appears only when we know who wrote it. It is labelled as supplied by the business or written by our staff.

Payment

Payment is not an input to any ranking, ordering or match. A builder cannot pay for a better position, a longer profile or a different label.

Gaps

We do not fill a gap with a guess. Pages with little behind them say how little. Counts are published only when we have them, and a list that is empty says it is empty.

Asking for a correction

The correction channel is not open yet. When it opens it will be listed here, and a correction needs the page address, what is wrong and a link to the official source.
